Being that this is my first semester back in an academic setting, my goal is to find a balance between all the things I want to do and all the things I have to do. Luckily, the topics in this program align with my professional interests, so it feels like a natural fit for my personal and career goals.
I never considered adding academic work or personal research to this website, as I was originally only planning to include arts and crafts projects and introspective blog posts. However, now that I think about it, it feels like the right addition, especially given the body of work I want to create. By working on this ePortfolio, I plan to use the skills learned here to further develop my intellectual growth and create a more well-rounded reflection of my interests and capabilities, and how this evolves over time.
While this domain and design had already existed, the content did not. I am starting from scratch to build out the content for both the academic side and personal portfolio side.
How did i pick this template?
I actually chose this template last year after I rebranded my studio. I transferred my site from a platform that offered complete freedom in design, which eventually became overwhelming and time-consuming. I wanted something more templated and easier to manage, hoping it would encourage me to update it more often. Unfortunately, not much progress has been made since then. I’ve already updated a lot of copy on my site since starting this ePortfolio, and I’m excited to add the academic aspect!
what information would a visitor be most interested in?
I think visitors would be most interested in the creative projects that I’m working on rather than the academic content, as it’s both visually appealing and relatable (after all, we all have hobbies of some sort!). If it’s people who know me personally, I think they’d be more interested in seeing the academic content, especially because I didn’t show an interest in pursuing higher education. Although, I have told a few friends that getting an MFA is something I want to achieve.
What areas need improvement?
There are two things that need to be improved:
- I need to upload all my personal projects to this site and write (or update) reflections on them. I don’t like to rewrite reflections though (just add notes at the end), because I want to maintain the thought I had at that time. Rewriting would feel like altering the authenticity of my initial perspective, and I value the insight those original reflections give me.
- Reading through relevant research and writing reflections as they relate to the topics we are studying in class. I tend to write a lot, so even in the assignments where one paragraph is required, I often end up writing at least two more (with one being for content). Blog posts can help me organize my thoughts more effectively without worrying about limitations.
