As an outsider with knowledge of the course material and an omniscient view of the story, I found it easy to see the “simple” fixes that would have avoided the issues this couple faced. One of the difficulties of relationships is understanding that my obligations and priorities are not the same as those of my partner and vice versa. It’s easy to fall into the trap of assuming that what matters to me should matter just as much to them, but that isn’t always the case.
