Reflection Post for COMM 601

1. What was the easiest part of setting up or updating your account?

I already had the basic structure set up for my website, so I did not have an issue with setting up or updating my ePortfolio. As a CMS, I find WordPress robust for my needs because it has both a post/blog feature and a portfolio feature. However, the struggle I face is organizing my work into clear categories without overlapping too much content because I want each piece to be unique and add depth, but not be repetitive.

2. What was the most challenging part of setting up or updating your account?

The most challenging part that I am facing is organizing my homepage design. It is currently organized by projects (by default, organized from the latest upload to the earliest). My goal for this semester– that is, the entire 16 weeks, not just the 8-week COMM 601 class– is to redesign my homepage with featured works from personal projects, professional projects, and academic work.

3. How confident do you feel in your professional presence at this time? (In other words—are you excited about your page, or is there an area where you feel you’ll need a lot of attention or expansion?)

My current academic content is up-to-date, so I am confident about the current work included in this ePortfolio; however, I am dissatisfied with the quality of the other projects. It’s been some time since I looked at my previous work, but I think I would enjoy it more to include a write-up of the process and what I learned from the project. Perhaps a case study for select works of each topic would suffice.

4. What questions do you have at this stage of the ePortfolio project?

I don’t have any questions about the ePortfolio project right now, but I would like feedback on other types of academic work I could include in the ePortfolio besides papers.

Updates

One “major” change made to the design is the addition of these placeholder letters. I plan to replace them with graphics that imitate stickers just as a decorative piece.

I added my latest branding work to my Featured Projects. I didn’t realize the layout looked like this, so I will be revisiting the design to feature the title across the top and the content to spread across the entire page instead of the left side.

Action Items

  • Redesign homepage – create icon stickers to replace SUMBI on the front page, create case studies for the featured categories
  • Organize projects up to this point and add them to the site
